ANNOUNCING THE WIDE VINYL DEBUT OF BARENAKED FOR THE HOLIDAYS
This holiday season, fans of Barenaked Ladies are in for a treat with the worldwide vinyl debut of the Canadian alt-pop icons’ bestselling album, Barenaked for the Holidays. First released in 2004, the 20-track album blends original tunes (“Christmas Pics,” “Hanukkah Blessings,” “Green Christmas”) and seasonal classics (“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “I Have a Little Dreidel,” “Auld Lang Syne”), with a heavy dash of the band’s signature wit. Adding a twist of holiday magic are special guests Michael Bublé and Sarah McLachlan, who lend their vocals to “Elf’s Lament” and “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”/“We Three Kings,” respectively.
Arriving via Craft Recordings, Barenaked for the Holidays is available in a variety of festive colors, in addition to classic black vinyl, including Candy Cane Split (exclusively through the band’s official store), Translucent Forest Green (Barnes & Noble), and Christmas Tree (Craft Recordings).
***
Offering something for everyone, BNL’s sole holiday release features 20 tracks that range from Christmas classics and Hannukah favorites to original ditties about the joys of winter and beyond—many of which are made even jollier, thanks to BNL’s humorous spirit. Opening Barenaked for the Holidays is a measured rendition of “Jingle Bells.” Halfway through, BNL breaks into the parody version (“Jingle bells/Batman smells/Robin laid an egg…”), setting the tone for the album.
The group takes a more traditional approach to songs like “Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah,” “Auld Lang Syne,” “I Have a Little Dreidel,” and Band Aid’s “Do They Know It’s Christmas?,” while an organ-based instrumental of “Carol of the Bells” (accented with harmonized hums from the band) is a refreshing take on the Yuletide classic. On the other end of the spectrum—in one of the album’s most hilarious moments—is “Deck the Stills,” in which BNL breaks into a 30-second acapella interlude, singing “Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young” to the tune of “Deck the Halls.”
Nearly half of the album is comprised of original material, including the earwormy “Green Christmas” (which appears in the 1999 Ron Howard film How the Grinch Stole Christmas), “Hanukkah Blessings,” “Christmas Pics,” and the reflective “Footprints.” The whimsical “Elf’s Lament,” meanwhile, features a cameo by a then-relatively unknown Michael Bublé—fresh off his first Juno® win for Breakthrough Artist of the Year. The band is also joined by the celebrated singer/songwriter Sarah McLaughlan, who lends her voice to an upbeat medley of “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”/“We Three Kings.”
Peppered throughout Barenaked for the Holidays is a selection of synth-y instrumental interludes, built around beats programmed on a classic Casio keyboard. They include a bossa nova-infused rendition of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” an up-tempo take on “O Holy Night,” and a cover of Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime” (which ends with a hidden round of “Happy Birthday” to Jesus himself).
Released in October 2004, Barenaked for the Holidays was embraced by fans and critics alike, earning a gold record in Canada, where it landed in the Top 30, and receiving high marks from the likes of Rolling Stone, who gave the album 4.5 out of 5 stars, praising, “Tapping into their inner child, the Barenaked Ladies make the holidays fun again.” AllMusic hailed, “The arrangements are nimble and…clever,” calling it, “more interesting and distinctive than the average holiday record.”PopMatters simply declared it to be, “silly, rollicking, goofy, and fun.”
Speaking on the album, co-founder Ed Robertson says, “Barenaked for the Holidays is a record I’m very proud of. It was fun taking a stab at a few holiday classics, but I think the real strength of the record is the original songs. ‘Footprints’ and ‘Snowman’ are among my favorites I’ve ever written. It’s always fun to revisit these songs around the holidays every year. It’s the only original music that we ONLY play for one month every year!!”

Barenaked Ladies Live – Press Quotes:
“BNL continue to show that beneath the seemingly goofy veneer they are a band of serious craft and commitment. Clothed or not, they’re a damn fine live act.”
Louder Than War
“It’s obvious from the very beginning that these guys get along really well together and love playing live gigs. Their musicality and creative talent is obvious, and they are just fun to watch.’
Renowned for Sound
“The enraptured crowd were singing along with their best known and most-loved tunes to their heart’s content, led a merry dance through the band’s back catalogue, eventually leaving the venue blissfully happy to have been, once more, entertained by the after such a long wait.”
All Music Magazine
“Barenaked Ladies are a blur of quips and banter on stage, but make no mistake they can play. Tight vocal harmonies between guitarist and singer Ed Robertson, guitarist/keyboard player Kevin Hearn, drummer Tyler Stewart and Jim Creeggan showed the class and sense of melody that bands who have risen up from the rest possess.”

Produced by Grammy and JUNO-award winning producer Eric Ratz and recorded at Noble Street Studios in Toronto, Barenaked Ladies’ upcoming new album In Flight marks a new chapter for the band. Maybe it’s just the passage of time, maybe the joy of getting back on the road after the COVID lockdown, but Ed Robertson has noticed a change in his own attitude which adjusted his tone on the new project. While BNL’s last album, 2021’s Detour de Force, looked closely at the perils of contemporary, alternate reality media, In Flight offers a sense of joy and appreciation for life.
In addition to the eight songs written/co-written by Ed Robertson, the album features four songs from Kevin Hearn, (two of which are love letters to Toronto: “See the Tower” and “The Peace Lady”) and two from Jim Creeggan, (“Just Wait” and “Wake Up). The album also features co-writers such as Kevin Griffin (Better Than Ezra), who co-wrote with Ed on “One Night” and “Lovin’ Life” (the latter with Thirty Seconds to Mars’ Steve Aiello), as well as notable Canadian musicians Max Kerman (Arkells) and Donovan Woods.
Ed Robertson says, “We’re a band that has committed to being who we are and what we are, and being as good as we can be—doing the best shows we can do, writing the best songs we can write—and we’ve done it for 35 years. I’m super proud of that.”
The first Barenaked Ladies concert was on October 1, 1988 at Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto. To celebrate the 35th anniversary of that show, SiriusXM Canada is presenting a very special BNL event in Toronto at the El Mocambo. Ed, Jim, Kevin and Tyler will take the stage and play a few songs from “In Flight”, plus all of their hits from the last 35 years. This exclusive concert is being recorded and will be broadcast on SiriusXM at a later date.
Over the course of 35 years, the beloved quartet has sold over 15 million records worldwide and built up an arsenal of hits such as “If I Had $1,000,000,” “One Week,” “Pinch Me” and “The Big Bang Theory Theme.” Widely acknowledged as one of the best live acts on the planet, BNL has hosted a cruise, had their own Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavour, and participated in the first-ever “space-to-earth musical collaboration” with astronaut Chris Hadfield. To date, BNL has amassed eight JUNO Awards, garnered two GRAMMY nominations and was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Barenaked Ladies Announce New Album “In Flight” Out September 15
Today, the legendary rockers Barenaked Ladies announced their highly anticipated new album, In Flight, set for release on September 15. Across 14 tracks, the band’s eighteenth studio album retains the dry wit and keen observation that BNL are known for, while also adding a strong sense of maturing and lessons learned. Available for pre-order as of today, exclusive D2C packages are available to include items such as In Flight on CD, cassette (a nod to BNL’s independent, platinum cassette, The Yellow Tape (1991), 180 gram colored double vinyl with two bonus tracks, a flight jacket, duffle bag and even a cassette player – all available for pre-order here. Alongside the release of In Flight, Barenaked Ladies will also be celebrating the 25th anniversary of their chart-topping hit single, “One Week.”
Barenaked Ladies also shared their newest single + video, “One Night.” The latest peek into their new album, the track addresses the unique relationship the band have always had with their fans. BNL’s Ed Robertson says that the song addresses “the magical connection that happens between a whole audience and a band. When it goes right—which it almost always does—for that ‘One Night’ it’s a very intense connection.” The rocking single is paired with a colorful video directed by Phil Harder (who previously directed six of BNL’s previous videos, including “Pinch Me”) which celebrates the magic that happens when two people connect.

After more than three decades as the lead singer and guitarist for Barenaked Ladies, Ed Robertston has a routine when it comes time to start writing songs for a new album. “I tend to get ideas while I’m driving up to my lake house,” he says. “I record voice memos along the way, and then I mix and match the various ideas I’ve come up with. On a typical drive, I’m happy if I get six or seven—eight ideas would be a good drive. For this album,” he continues, “on my first writing trip I had 21 different song ideas. I sat down to write, and I thought if I could finish one of them—get the verses, get the bridge, get the chorus in one day—then I’ll know this whole writing period is going to be good. And I finished eight songs. I sat down at 10 in the morning, and I looked up at 9:30 and I hadn’t eaten, I hadn’t moved from the writing table. It was exciting. I’ve never felt that before.”

Barenaked Ladies are “Lovin’ Life”!
Today, the legendary rock group Barenaked Ladies return with their newest single + video “Lovin’ Life.” An ode to the joy of living and finding happiness in the present moment, the track is the first new music from the band since 2021, with the fun-loving rockers sharing their infectious optimism – celebrating the unpredictability of life.
Recorded at Noble Street Studios in Toronto, “Lovin’ Life” was produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Eric Ratz and was written by Ed Robertston, Kevin Griffin (Better Than Ezra), and Steve Aiello (Thirty Seconds to Mars). With the fleeting nature of time, Barenaked Ladies remind enjoying the rollercoaster and cherishing all of life’s moments. BNL frontman Ed Robertson says, “I find myself in a reflective place. Feeling real gratitude and contentment. This was a fun song to write, and it’s been amazing to see the crowds reacting to it. We’re Lovin’ Life!”
In true BNL fashion, the captivating track is an instant earworm, paired with a colorful video (directed by Edward Pond) of exclusive footage from the recording studio and their current Last Summer on Earth 2023 American Tour, where the band has been performing “Lovin’ Life” every night live.

Los Angeles, CA (January 30, 2023) — Barenaked Ladies are at it again as they announce their 7th almost-annual, expansive Last Summer on Earth 2023 American Tour.
Continuing the trend that they began a little more than a decade ago, the Toronto-based eight-time JUNO winners and two-time Grammy nominees are eager to hit the road this summer, playing three dozen shows in major venues all over the United States beginning June 2.
This summer, headliners Barenaked Ladies shake things up a bit by having not one, but two direct support acts, with American bands Semisonic (June 2–June 26) and Five for Fighting (June 28–July 22) splitting the shows. Scottish rockers Del Amitri will open all the shows.
Barenaked Ladies launched their Last Summer on Earth tours in 2012, the year the ancient Mayan calendar had predicted Earth would cease to be. Naturally, BNL seized the opportunity to have a little fun with the idea, and they wound up having so much fun that they’ve repeated the tour seven of the last 12 summers.
On their previous Last Summer on Earth tours — a phrase so fraught with irony that it fully befits this band of clever, scholarly rockers — Barenaked Ladies have enjoyed inviting friends along for the ride. Gin Blossoms and Toad the Wet Sprocket warmed up the crowds last summer, and Cracker, Big Head Todd & the Monsters, Blues Traveler, Guster, Ben Folds Five, Violent Femmes, Colin Hay, OMD, Howard Jones, Better Than Ezra, and KT Tunstall have all gone out with BNL on previous Last Summer on Earth tours.
And now, in the summer of 2023, the Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductees, the band who taught us the value of a million dollars, who explained The Big Bang in under two minutes, and who made us say “underwear”, will bring their show full of hits and fan favorites to American audiences.
Premium seats, merch packages, pre-show soundcheck parties, meet-and-greets, and more will highlight a variety of VIP packages for Barenaked Ladies’ Last Summer on Earth 2023 American Tour.
Barenaked Bytes is the free, official Barenaked Ladies app, and it is where you’ll find BNL news, information, and merch, and, with the purchase of a Barenaked Bytes bundle, first access to tickets and VIP packages starting January 31st at 10am local time. The Bytes bundle will also contain an exclusive BNL t-shirt, which will only be available via the app. Barenaked Bytes is available at the App Store and Google Play. It’s free to download and use: https://www.barenakedbytes.app/ In-app purchases available.
For Last Summer on Earth 2023, Barenaked Ladies are once again happy to tour in the most sustainable way possible with the help of their partner, REVERB. Since 2004, Barenaked Ladies have proudly partnered with REVERB to reduce the environmental impact of touring, giving back to local communities across the US and Canada in the process.

BARENAKED FOR THE HOLIDAYS (DELUXE EDITION) OUT NOVEMBER 11, 2022
Today, multi-platinum band Barenaked Ladies announce Barenaked for the Holidays (Deluxe Edition) – featuring nine bonus tracks – will be released digitally on November 11, 2022 on Raisin’ Records. The popular holiday-themed collection achieved GOLD certification in Canada and hit the Top 100 U.S. Billboard album chart, when it was first released in 2004. The album includes seven original songs, alongside faithful and modern interpretations of traditional Christmas and Hanukkah songs, steeped with the musicianship and sense of humour the band is known for. Highlights include “Green Christmas” notably written for the blockbuster Ron Howard film Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000), the heartwarming “Snowman”, which Rolling Stone calls, “a tender original”, Jim Creeggan’s jazzy “Christmas Pics”, and Kevin Hearn’s nostalgic “Christmastime (Oh Yeah)”, which is “pretty and understated”, according to PopMatters. Sarah McLachlan is featured on “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen / We Three Kings”, while Michel Bublé appears on the original track, “Elf’s Lament”.
“Tapping into their inner child, the Barenaked Ladies make the holidays fun again,
even if you’re not the kid you used to be.” – Rolling Stone Magazine
The new digital-exclusive Deluxe Edition adds nine additional songs, all recorded live off the floor at Toronto’s Noble Street studios during BNL’s December 2020 Holiday special, A Very Virtual Christmas. Seven of the bonus tracks are live versions of songs from Barenaked for the Holidays, including special guest Sarah McLachlan, who reprises her feature on the traditional holiday songs. Also included are new tracks “Feliz Navidad” a send-up of the Jose Feliciano classic, and “Santa Sabbath (Xmas Metal-y)”, a medley of three traditional Christmas songs sung to the tune of “War Pigs” by Black Sabbath – which features Ed Robertson on drums and drummer Tyler Stewart on lead vocals.
